Taral is a versatile tabla player from Mumbai, India who moved to Halifax in 2016. Taral received training in tabla through the ancient system of pedagogy called the ‘Guru-Shishya Parampara’ (Master-Disciple tradition) from Guru Pandit Sudhir Mainkar of Delhi Gharana. Taral also holds a Masters Degree in Percussions (Tabla) from Bharati Vidyapeeth, Pune, India. Having grown up in a musical environment, his natural inclination towards tabla became apparent early in his childhood. At the age of ten, he was initiated into tabla playing by his father Pankaj Naik who is a disciple of the Late Ustad Allarakha. Taral is a regular international performer of both traditional Indian music and contemporary world music. Following many years of performing and teaching in India, he looks forward to promoting not only the art of Tabla playing but also the culture, music and instruments of India in Atlantic Canada.
