Formed in 2014 through a series of workshops at NoBad Sound Studio, a youth-focused music centre in Montreal, Strange Froots is an alternative chill-soul group featuring a triple-threat roster of Naïka Champaïgne, SageS, and Mags. With each member contributing songwriting, beatmaking, vocals and instrumentation, Strange Froots is an active practice of the kind of equality and awareness their music promotes. Seamlessly blending traditions from their manifold perspectives of the Black diaspora (Haiti, Ghana, Jamaica and Senegal), the Froots’ music displays a disarming form of directness that allows them to communicate complex ideas with effortless allure. We’re feeling so excited to be hosting this undeniable collective of versatile women as they make their way to the forefront of the #BlackGirlMagic movement.
