Laura Ortman (White Mountain Apache) is a Brooklyn-based composer, musician and artist whose been active in a multitude of circles for well over a decade. Whether she’s producing solo works, scoring for dance, forming an all-Native-American orchestra, collecting field recordings or singing through a megaphone, her work bares a distinct voice full of daring and fervor. Connecting the dots between multiple disciplines and scenes, Ortman has collaborated with the likes of Tony Conrad, Raven Chacon, Okkyung Lee and Jock Soto and has been hosted by The Whitney Museum of American Art, MoMA PS1, The Kitchen, CBGB’s, The Pompidou and many other established and DIY venues throughout the US, Canada and Europe. At present, her live shows centre around fierce violin playing, moving effortlessly from long form melody into all out wall-of-noise succulence.
