As we transition away from our former name and branding as OBEY Convention, we’re looking for a designer to help us realize a new visual identity for our organization. We’ve been undergoing an internal revisioning process and have identified ideas, adjectives, references and astrology-related themes from which to work. We’re now seeking someone to bring them to life!

This contract runs November 12th 2019 – June 30th 2020 with the possibility of renewal the following season.
TIMELINE + DELIVERABLES
November: Establishment of New Visual Identity
We’ll work with the designer to discuss outcomes and possibilities from our revisioning process. During this month, the designer will need to develop a new logo and basic visual assets for our online presence (website, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook). We have plenty of resources and input ready to go.
December: Programming Assets
We’ll be announcing our new brand alongside an upcoming season of performances, so we’ll need design options for a small collection of digital flyers and social media content. These will be an extension of the previous month’s work thematically.
January – May: Season and Festival Rollout
We’ll be launching a new website in January so we’ll need logo, headers and backgrounds formatted for web. This period includes a monthly performance and workshop series, so once a month we’ll need a design for one physical poster plus a small series of associated digital assets for social media. This is also the time where we begin rolling out our annual festival.The festival typically calls for three main announcement graphics formatted across socials, one festival poster, 3-4 ads for print/online, and a cluster of social media assets that increase in frequency as time goes on.
May – June: Festival Time
This is generally a quiet time for our designer, though we’ll need small things like venue/FOH signage and a ticket template.
Our core staff works part-time and our board is comprised of volunteers. This means that we’re not a 9-5 organization and, due to the nature of the work, we often work in clusters to meet various PR deadlines. The ideal candidate should be able to join us in this flow and be available as needed (within reason, of course). We do our absolute best to provide ample time to work, moral support and constructive feedback. We’re happy to accommodate the style of workflow the successful candidate prefers (for example, if you like to present 3 drafts, or work from one main creative piece with ongoing feedback).
Creative files should be provided in .AI or .PSD so we can re-work as needed for ads, social images etc.
We’re able to offer $3000 CAD to the successful candidate.

- 2 references of people with whom you’ve worked in a similar capacity
- anything else you feel important for us to know as we assess applications
The deadline to submit is November 5th, 2019 at midnight AST.
Only those selected for interview will be contacted with results. Interviews will be conducted in person or by distance between the deadline and start date.
